Canadian aerospace company Bombardier has unveiled its new $670 million assembly plant at Pearson Airport, replacing the Downsview property. The facility, touted as the world's most modern private jet production center, is dedicated to assembling Bombardier's Global 7500 business aircraft, priced at $78 million and claimed to be the fastest and most expansive private jet available.

The relocation from Downsview to Pearson, which began last summer, is expected to be completed later this year. Premier Doug Ford commended Bombardier for funding the facility independently, without taxpayer money, during a plant ceremony. The project, initiated in 2019, now employs over 2,000 people and represents a significant investment in the Canadian aerospace industry.

Mark Masluch, Bombardier's senior director of public relations, highlighted the complexity of the assembly process, taking about a year from the start at the Pearson facility to the interior finishing at Bombardier's Montreal headquarters. The new plant features 17 production stations for various components, including wing assemblies, stabilizers, landing gear, and engines.

Almost 1,200 of Bombardier's 2,000 employees from the Downsview assembly factory have already transitioned to the new Pearson location, with the remainder expected to move later this year. CEO Éric Martel emphasized the company's significant contribution to the Ontario economy, purchasing goods and services from local vendors amounting to nearly $900 million annually.
